NO NEED TO KILL IT! IT’S ALREADY DEAD!

Just a reminder that I prefer you to either feed raw, uncooked meat or lightly cooked meat = 8/10 minutes of cooking.

There is no need to freeze meet if you lightly cook as the heat will deal with any parasitic burden.

Raw meat it’s a good idea to freeze first if it’s not been purchased from a DEFRA licenced raw dog food company.

Cooking through, does have a place in certain circumstances. But my preference is Uncooked or lightly cooked.

It’s well documented that I lightly cook my pets food:

A. They prefer it,

B. It’s the closest to nature as I serve it at around 38 degrees, blood temperature of a ‘kill’.

C. Freezing does loose some vitamin content is estimated around 8/11% especially vitamin C. Interestingly vitamin C isn’t a requirement of FEDIAF! When I formulate raw pet foods, I always make certain that we cover the vitamin C loss after freezing and in some cases refreezing! (That’s what balancing to FEDIAF & beyond means).

D. No need to worry about parasites as the heat deals with this.

I never use ‘high’ or ‘fast’ heat when cooking meat for dogs or cats! I’ve written quite a bit about this. Basically it makes the meat tough.

Maybe we dive too deep because we can, maybe slight, minimal & delicate changes to the fresh whole living foods that we nourish ourselves and our pets with is the key?

I’m not a massive fan of probiotics from dairy.

I’m a massive fan of some biotcs from good healthy soil.

I have had great success removing prebiotics from the for dogs with uncontrollable itching.

Maybe how I do things isn’t always the norm, but sometimes a little bit of intuition & majic are also at play😉

Don’t over think food today.

Duck Gizzards

The Queeniechi gang enjoyed their free range, duck gizzards today!

They were smacking their lips for ages! I warmed them for a few mins and fed them with the rest of their food.

Warmed them a little but uncooked. Yummy in their tummies!

DISCLAIMER:

My dogs ate a totally unbalanced to FEDIAF/AFFCO meal today. I don’t ever recommend doing this as it could result in your dog wanting more and more delicious fresh food and refusing to eat:
DEAD INORGANIC – HIGHLY PROCESSED – MOISTURE DEPLETED – LONG SHELF LIFE – BORING AS FUCK FOOD!

You’re very welcome.

READY RAW BALANCE NUTRITION MODULE ❤️ F R E E ❤️

So I am actually overwhelmed with how many of you want to take these modules!
So! I could charge you all and make some money, but to me this ends up excluding some people because they simply can’t afford it! Or it’s bad timing financially.
So! I’m going to run the course and make it free.
ABOUT THE COURSE:
✅I will set up a private FB group just for the course.
✅We will look at 4 agreed recipes. I will set up a poll and agree which 4.
✅I will then put them into a spreadsheet and show you what according to FEDIAF is missing or there is too much of.
✅I will explain 80/10/10✅Balance over time✅What balanced and complete means✅What complete means✅Why traditional vets do not trust raw and how we can all help with this.✅We will look at non DEFRA approved practices ✅We will discuss canine synthesis of vitamins
😍Why am I doing this? So that the epidemic of people in groups constantly asking:
“Best source of probiotics”“Best source of selenium”“My dog is itchy” “Help my dog has blocked anal glands”
🇬🇧This module will be aimed at 4 UK raw companies.
❤️If you want more of this, I’ll do more! Simples.
🇺🇸If there is the demand there will be one for US raw.
🇬🇧UK Fresh cooked
🇺🇸US Fresh cooked
🇬🇧UK kibble
🇺🇸US kibble
🇬🇧UK canned
🇺🇸US canned
🚀If you’re interested pop your name down & I’ll invite you to the secret group!
❌This is NOT to pull part any raw dog food companies. This is to help you understand what is in the food that you are feeding.
🕺🏽I myself balance over time.
✅I will be using ADF (Animal Diet Formulator) the commercial version.
😍This spreadsheet was created by Steve Brown the Dog Father of formulating and spreadsheets.
✅This can be purchased through The Royal Animal University (I am not affiliated).
⚠️ If you take a course, ANY COURSE! Find out about the spreadsheets being used, who wrote the course & how long they have been doing it for! Do they update their own learnings regularly?
😩I’ve seen many! OyVey! They round up your figures, make bizare calculations and often don’t have the latest available stats.
✅FEDIAF is updated every year and ADF reflects these updates. (Love or hate FEDIAF it’s the best we currently have available).

ALL OF THOSE PREBIOTICS ARE MAKING ME ITCH!

I’ve written about the use of prebiotics when we have an itchy dog, many times over.

I don’t often tell you all about the dogs I’ve helped with testimonials etc provided!

Aimée Thomas Is one the fabulous admin team female members at Holistic Dog Care. We changed something very simple in little Pumpkins diet and that was to avoid as much as possible prebiotics.

Kefir is synbiotic containing both Prebiotics & probiotics. Often with an itchy dog, we avoid these and voila! No itch!!

If you want to know more search my posts for ‘probiotics’ or SBO’s!

This post is from 2017 ❤️

A big THANK YOU to Emma Rutherford for suggesting stopping with prebiotics for our itchy little pup, Pumpkin.

I didn’t change anything else (still adding fruit/veg to her diet even though I’ve always been told the sugars and starch in them can contribute to yeast, but I wanted to see what this one change would do).

Well, would you believe it, her itching has greatly reduced! 😮 😀

She still has little brown speckly bits on her neck, chest and belly, but they’re getting smaller 🙂 (not the stuff in the photo – that’s mud 😂)

So again, a big big thank you, Emma, from me and Pumpkin 😘 👏👐

I’ll add in that I’m also ever grateful to this kind, non-judgemental group and the knowledge that the admin share, so thank you for all that you do.

Sickness Bug

There is a nasty sickness bug going around in the UK 🇬🇧

MY ADVICE IS:

TEMPERATURE

Always know your dogs ‘normal temperature’ what is normal for them. Take their temperature a few times after normal activity, high activity and resting. This will help you determine if there is an issue if they are unwell.

GUMS

Know the colour of your dog’s gums on a normal day. Keep a record of the colour by taking photos. Bright red could indicate a temperature or sore gums. Pale gums could indicate hypoglycaemia or a temperature drop.

EYES

Are your dog’s eyes nice and bright and clear? Are they milky or the whites brownish? Could indicate a liver issue.

BREATH

Is your dog’s breath sweet? Eggy? Fishy? All signs that something could be wrong. Take note of what your dog’s breath normally smells like?

HEART RATE

Listen to your dog’s heartbeat with a professional stethoscope. Get to know what is normal for your dog. Skipping a few beats, rapid beating or slow beats are all fine if there is a reason for this. Perhaps coughing or having a choke up session, running fast or sleeping. But if this is accompanied by vomiting, bloody poop & a temperature then give your vet a call for advice.

TYPE OF SICK

If your dog is sick with bile, is it white and frothy? Bright yellow? If it’s a one-off I wouldn’t worry.

If your dog is proper sick, a proper chunder (carrots the lot) and this happens several times within an hour then there is something wrong.

STEP 1. Take your dogs temperature 30 mins after they have been sick. If it is normal then I’d suggest feeding a light meal like scrambled eggs. I don’t agree with withholding food when an animal is sick.

STEP 2. If the temperature is raised keep an eye on the temperature over the next few hours if it is escalating and the dog is still sick, call your vet and ask for advice.

STEP 3. Check your dog’s gums if they are red and inflamed and a temperature is present. Keep your dog in a cool environment, no sudden shocks like cold sponging or fans. Call your vet office for advice.

If your dog has the runs/loose poop/ Delhi belly then yes, take the temperature

STEP 1. Take the temperature! If it is high call your vet office for advice.

STEP 2. Assess the colour and frequency and most importantly the smell. If it’s general upset tummy then offer perhaps a light bone broth or a dehydrated snack.

If your dog has sickness, dirreah & a temperature please speak to your vet office ASAP.

Make sure there is access to plenty of fresh cool water for drinking and don’t add silly stuff like Collidial Silver or Apple Cider Vinegar to the water. The last thing we want is to put a sick dog off staying hydrated.

Pinch the back of your dog’s neck and if the fur it is slow to release then your dog is probably dehydrated.

For small adult dogs that won’t eat because they are sick I recommend rubbing a little drop of honey on the gums to keep the energy up and avoid the risk of hypoglycaemia.

WHEN TO GO TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY

Advice from Rachel Bean RVN

✅Chronic vomiting

✅Diarrhoea (with bloody stools),

✅Lethargy, not eating/drinking.

If your dog attends a daycare and you suspect they have an upset tummy or any signs of illness please let your daycare know. Avoid dog parks and keep your dog home until they are better.

We don’t know much about this virus but it’s seeming to spread quickly and be pretty relentless!

Let’s be careful out there!

Dog Food Revolution

These pictures are from maybe 2012, can’t remember exactly!

I was all about “The Dog Food Revolution” at the time ✊🏽 But happily since moved on! PHEW!!! What a numpty phase that was 😂

I’m not really a fighting warrior type, more a softie pacifist, who is more about creating change through inspiring the ‘new’ not trying to ‘force’ the old behaviours!

The ‘Posh 🐟 ‘ is a range of cat food that I created all that time ago! It never saw the light of day!!!!! THANK DOG! It has peas in it!!!! #FFS 🙈 I was trying to emulate fresh versions of popular cat food at the time, they were fresh garden peas!!!! And my Bengals love some veggies (don’t hate me).

I was trying to be someone that I’m not! Trying to be what I thought people/my little audience wanted! Nearly as bad as the whole ‘clean eating’ movement! Oy bloody Vey! 👍🏻🙄

I’ve become me! And I loose followers daily because, I either offend them with my ‘foul language’ or I’ve offended a dietary choice that they have made & made them feel uncomfortable. (Sorry not sorry)

I’m pretty much unfiltered as a human being when it comes to my passions in life! You can see my journey all over my Social Media’s, all of the crap ideas, poorly executed videos, crap lighting, dodgy scripting, weird recipes! And much much more! But it’s all there for you to see in the hopes that it might encourage you to give this a go! Tell your story, change one persons mind to #FEEDFRESH 💖

You won’t see endless photos of my dogs, children & my daily personal life because that’s ‘my’ life! I’m a very private person & really quite insular at times (yup) but I won’t be a fake ass clown! There to just to tell you the fun stuff! It doesn’t help anyone pretending that my life is AMAZING 24/7 that’s bullshit!

Go and be an influencer! Post your experiences & love yourself just a little bit more today!

You CAN do this!

With Love

P.S. don’t forget to check your boobs (men too) & balls 🎱 if you have them!
